Cobourg residents can now tell the Town what kinds of volunteer and civic opportunities interest them through a new pilot called Get Involved Cobourg!
The programme uses a voluntary online form to collect residents’ interests. The Town says those who complete it may be contacted when a matching opportunity becomes available. Examples may include helping at a community event, joining an advisory committee, participating in a workshop or engagement project, or taking on a longer-term role.
What the form does
Residents choose the causes, topics and types of service that interest them. Completing the form does not place someone into a volunteer position or guarantee that an opportunity will be available; it gives the Town permission to make contact when a relevant opportunity arises.
Participants can update their preferences or ask to be removed from the contact list at any time. The Town describes the project as a pilot intended to make community participation more open and accessible.
Separate from the municipal election
The programme is based on the Service Ballots model developed by MASS Civic Innovation Lab. Despite that name, the interest form is separate from the 2026 municipal and school board election ballot and does not affect voting.
The Town announced the pilot on October 1, 2026. It did not publish a closing date, minimum age, expected response time, accessibility arrangements or a complete list of available placements in the notice checked for this report.
How to take part
Residents can read the Town’s programme information and complete the voluntary form at Engage Cobourg’s volunteer page. Before submitting, review the form’s current privacy information and any opportunity-specific requirements. People looking for scheduled community activities can also browse our Cobourg events calendar.
