Flags across Cobourg are to be lowered to half-staff in tribute to Canadian Armed Forces members who died in a training incident at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright in Alberta, the Town announced on Monday, October 19, 2026.
The municipal notice says Mayor Lucas Cleveland requested the tribute following the October 17 incident. In a message on behalf of Council and the Town, Cleveland expressed condolences to the families of those who died and support for injured members as they recover.
How long will the flags remain lowered?
The Town says its half-staff observance will coincide with the Government of Canada’s. The notice does not give a date or time for raising the flags again. It also does not announce a local public ceremony.
