October 24 downtown closures and October 21–25 Esplanade restrictions: where access changes in Cobourg

The Esplanade and its parking lots close October 21–25 for marina operations; separate downtown street closures run 7 a.m.–1 p.m. on October 24.

Visitors heading to Cobourg’s waterfront or downtown this week should plan around two different closure schedules. The Town’s October 20 notice sets out a multi-day closure of The Esplanade and its East and West parking lots for marina boat lift-out and hauling work, plus Saturday street closures for the Downtown Cobourg DBIA’s Trick or Treat event.

Waterfront: The Esplanade closes October 21–25

The announced closure runs from Wednesday, October 21 at 7 a.m. until Sunday, October 25 at 5 p.m. The marina’s second weekend of fall boat lift-out and hauling operations takes place Saturday, October 24. These are local Eastern times.

  • The Esplanade, including its East and West parking lots: closed for the stated October 21–25 window.
  • Hibernia Street south of Third Street: delays expected, but the Town says this is not a full closure.
  • Third Street between Hibernia Street and The Esplanade: delays expected, not a full closure.
  • Division Street south of The Esplanade: included in the marina closure notice. A separate start and finish time for this section is not specified.

Pedestrian access will also be restricted wherever heavy equipment is operating. The Town says roads and walkways will reopen when it is safe to do so; the notice does not provide a guaranteed walking route through the work area. Follow the restrictions and signs on site rather than assuming the waterfront route is open.

Downtown: three street closures Saturday, October 24

From 7 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 24, the Town lists these closures for the DBIA Trick or Treat event:

  • Second Street, from King Street West to Albert Street.
  • Third Street, from Albert Street to King Street West.
  • King Street West, from Spring Street to Division Street.

Children will be able to trick or treat at participating downtown businesses, and local businesses will remain open during the event. The 7 a.m. start above is the road-closure time, not an advertised start for trick or treating. See our local events calendar for event details.

Parking and planning your visit

The Town says municipal parking is in its low-season period: the first three hours are free, followed by the regular rate. That does not make the closed Esplanade lots available. Use alternate routes and follow posted signage; no replacement parking space or availability is guaranteed by the notice.

For general trip planning, see our Cobourg parking guide and local newsroom. This report covers the announced restrictions, not a live assessment of traffic or pedestrian access.
