Cobourg is recruiting residents and other eligible local applicants for five to seven places on the Cobourg Public Library Board and one place on the Cobourg Police Services Board. Applications close Friday, November 20, 2026, at 4:30 p.m.
What the boards do
Library board members guide the library’s direction: setting priorities and policies, overseeing the chief executive’s performance, advocating for services and monitoring financial stewardship. The police board provides civilian governance and oversight, including strategic priorities, policies, the police budget, the complaints process and appointment and evaluation of the Chief of Police. These are board appointments, not staff job openings.
Eligibility and applying
The Town’s general eligibility rules require a connection to the municipality as a resident, landowner or tenant, or the spouse of an owner or tenant, throughout the term. Applicants must normally be at least 18 and must not be employed by the Town. Board-specific requirements may also apply; review the current application information rather than treating these general rules as a complete eligibility determination.
Use the online application or printable PDF available from the Town’s Committees and Boards page. For help, contact Legislative Services at 905-372-4301 or clerk@cobourg.ca. The Town says accessible or alternative formats can be requested through the Municipal Clerk’s Office when disability prevents use of the application form.
Council makes the appointments. The Town says processing and filling vacancies can take up to eight weeks after the deadline, and the Clerk will notify applicants once Council has finalized appointments. Applying does not guarantee a position.
