Cobourg’s Remembrance observances begin this Sunday and continue through Wednesday, November 11. The Town and Royal Canadian Legion Branch 133 invite the public to remember Canada’s Veterans at Victoria Park, St. Peter’s Anglican Church and the Legion.

Sunday, November 8

An Act of Remembrance begins at the Victoria Park Cenotaph at 9:30 a.m., led by the Air Cadets and Royal Marines. A separate Choral Mattins service follows at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, 240 College Street, Cobourg, featuring the Concert Band of Cobourg and the Royal Marine Association of Ontario. The Town says all are welcome.

Tuesday, November 10: overnight vigil

Members of 598 Sabre Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Cadets, will stand watch overnight at the Victoria Park Cenotaph. Visitors are welcome to pay their respects. The notice does not give a start or finish time; do not treat this as a scheduled daytime service.

Wednesday, November 11: parade and ceremony

The Legion parade leaves 135B Orr Street at 10 a.m., travelling north on Hibernia Street, east on King Street and south on Church Street into Victoria Park. The ceremony at the park’s Cenotaph begins at 10:30 a.m. The parade returns by the same route after the ceremony; no ceremony finish time is announced.

Expect intermittent traffic stops approximately 10 a.m.–noon on Hibernia between Orr and King, King between Hibernia and Church, and Church between King and Victoria Park. These are traffic-control hours, not the ceremony’s running time. Allow extra travel time when approaching the waterfront or downtown.

Dinner at Branch 133

At the Legion, 135B Orr Street, cocktails start at 4:30 p.m. and dinner is served at 5 p.m. on November 11. The Town lists tickets at $25 for nonservice members and says Veterans may attend free. Tickets are sold at the Legion bar; remaining availability is not verified. No age or accessibility arrangements are stated in the notice.

Town-owned flags will be at half-mast on November 11. The local Poppy Campaign runs through November 11, supporting Veterans and their families through branch-held funds.

Find individual service listings in our Cobourg events calendar. All times above are local Eastern time. Admission charges are not stated for the public observances; only the dinner price is confirmed.
